We are dedicated in everything we do to the principles of academic excellence, inclusivity and social justice. This shared purpose is threaded through our research, our education and the ways in which our colleagues and students engage with wider society in local, national and global contexts. We are proud to be one of the country’s leading research-intensive institutions, assessed to be in the top 25% in the UK in REF2021. Our students are also central to our success and we are consistently rated first for student satisfaction among the University of London institutions. Through the dedication of our academics to teaching and learning, discoveries that change the world, and the distinctive feel of the Royal Holloway experience, we have built a diverse and supportive community that inspires students and colleagues to succeed.

Under the leadership of our recently appointed Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Julie Sanders, we are now seeking to appoint an exceptional Senior Vice-Principal/Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Academic Strategy, Planning and Resources. A newly configured position, the role is central to our vision and mission. With academic accountability for strategic planning, financial and resource planning, physical and digital infrastructure, and environmental sustainability, the successful candidate will be key to the delivery and implementation of our ambitious and values-led strategic objectives. The role will also oversee portfolio leads for Research and Innovation and work in close partnership with colleagues leading on the Education and Student Journey portfolios to foster an inclusive and supportive culture of high achievement and continuous improvement for all.

The successful candidate will have a track record of sustained senior leadership in a comparably complex institution, together with exceptional communication skills, highly-developed strategic and commercial acumen and a proven ability to work collaboratively across a diverse range of interested parties and partners. With a successful academic track record, underpinned by a research profile of international standing, an ability to work at pace and thrive in a dynamic environment will be vital, and a commitment to the mission and ethos of the University essential.

This is a significant moment in the history of the university. It is one in which, as a community and as a senior leadership team, we are seeking to shape a future that is as brave, bold and pioneering as the principles which were at the heart of our two founding colleges, Bedford and Royal Holloway, which opened to enable women’s education in 1849 and 1879 respectively. If you have the right experience, skills and track record of success and share our passion and ambition, we would be delighted to hear from you.
