Position Overview

KU is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to work within the research team of Dr. Kashir in the Department of Biology. The successful candidate will work on a cell biology-based project examining the physiological effect of specific mutations of the sperm-factor (phospholipase C zeta) upon calcium release, localization patterns, expression, and overall physiological effect within various cellular models. The project will involve investigations in several cell lines and types, as well as various work with various tissue types. The successful candidate will be provided an opportunity to work alongside leading researchers and graduate students from diverse backgrounds and be part of a rapidly growing research team and department.

Position Requirements

  • Experience in conducting experiments involving cell culture, microscopy, and cloning methods
  • Hands-on expertise in DNA/RNA isolation, and gene expression quantification methodology such as fluorescence quantification and/or qRT-PCR
  • Hands-on experience of PCR-based methodologies
  • Demonstrable ability to work independently and team player skills.
  • Adhere to the University's information security and confidentiality policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordingly
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the Line Manager


Candidate Profile

Essential Criteria

  • Masters from a reputable university in Cell/Molecular Biology or related discipline
  • Experience of undertaking assigned research tasks and starting to manage own workload
  • Contributing to scientific papers and academic journal articles where possible acting as lead/ corresponding author
  • A willingness to contribute to a collaborative and supportive team culture
  • Excellent English language communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to function as part of a team working on multiple tasks with competing demands and deadlines
  • Well-developed reasoning and problem-solving skills

Desired Criteria

  • Masters gained from and/or experience working in a top 200 QS or THE ranked University
  • At least 1 year of increasingly accountable relevant experience as a researcher in academia or in industry
  • Hands-on experience of working with phospholipase C zeta in the past
  • Hands-on experience of immunofluorescence/immunohistochemistry methodology
