ABOUT THE ROLE

Working as part of multi-disciplinary teams, including academic and industry partners, you will support the Principal Investigator in delivery of research activity on the "Profiling microbial communities in Acheta domesticus production systems for risk assessment and evaluation, and development of best practice approaches" project, profiling the bacterial community and associated metabolites in insect feed and food production systems, to support excellence in food safety.

This Research Project is being delivered within the Department of Applied Sciences, with a Research Team including Scientists from the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, and UK industry partners.  
 
ABOUT YOU
 
Applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent experience, and have demonstrable specialist expert knowledge in microbiology, genomics, and/or metabolomics approaches.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work under the general guidance of the Principal Investigator to contribute ideas, including enhancements to the technical or methodological aspects of their studies.
• Pursue research using appropriate methodologies, with advice and support where required.
• Assess research findings for the need/scope for further investigations.
• Collate, process and present research data in an appropriate mode and use suitable IT tools to facilitate progression of the project.
• Prepare presentations and deliver these to your immediate supervisor and the project team and to engage in discussion on your research.
• Develop strong collaborative research relationships with the team of academics working within your research area.
• Write reports for delivery to the project team and funder as required.
• Help prepare research findings and data for high quality publications with the support of your supervisor.
• Develop an awareness of University structures, policies and procedures and relevant issues in the higher education, research, social and political environment.
• Complete risk assessments in line with the requirement of your role.
• Use research resources including, where required, laboratories, workshops and specialist equipment, as appropriate.
• Maintain academic standards and freedom, and work in accordance with university policies.(e.g. equal opportunities, health and safety policies).

QUALIFICATIONS

• PhD or equivalent research experience in the area of microbiology, genomics, and/or metabolomics.
