Singapore University of Social Sciences, the leading university of lifelong learning and social good, is seeking a University Data Protection Officer to oversee the University’s compliance with data protection laws and regulations.

This position will report to the University Registrar.

Job Description

  • Driving the development and review of data protection policies and processes;le
  • Ensuring compliance with the PDPA through data protection policies and processes;
  • Fostering a personal data protection culture within SUSS and communicating the SUSS personal data protection policies to stakeholders;
  • Reviewing regulatory changes to the PDPA and assessing the impact of these changes on the university data protection policy and ensuring that the Data Protection Committee and their respective departments comply with the regulatory changes;
  • Identifying and alerting management to any risk that might arise with regard to the personal data handled by SUSS;
  • Ensuring that university staff and functional personnel responsible for carrying out data protection work are trained;
  • Handling access and correction requests to personal data;
  • Managing personal data protection-related queries and complaints; and
  • Engaging with the PDPC on personal data protection matters, if necessary.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline and desirably, with CIPP qualification
  • Possess at least 10 years of working experience with at least 6-8 years of PDPA governance, audit, compliance and/or data management
  • Strong knowledge of data protection regulations and standards as well as technical knowledge of data processing and privacy practices
  • Experience with Data Protection Trustmark Consultancy/Certification would be an advantage
  • Good communication skills to effectively educate and advise faculty, staff, students and associates on data protection issues
  • Proficiency in English to develop, review and present data protection policies and processes
  • Continuous learning and adaptability to keep up with changes in data protection regulations and industry standards
  • Ability to lead and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
