Job Description

Role Summary

The Department of Government and Society seeks to appoint Assistant Professor in Sociology. The position will be of interest to those with expertise in the area of applied sociology and data analysis. The position holder will be a member of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS). They will have a strong research potential in their field, and they will be expected to further development of CHSS goals. They will be expected to apply for both internal and external funding, as well as to teach and supervise at both undergraduate and graduate levels. In terms of service, they will be expected to contribute to admissions, assessment, and any curriculum-related matters.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will make a full contribution to the academic life of the University through research, teaching, and academic service. There is considerable flexibility in the organization of duties and faculty workload planning is undertaken as part of ongoing staff review with the Department Chair in order to ensure appropriate time and opportunity to undertake all duties as well as for professional development. The broad balance of duties for Professors (at all levels) includes teaching and supervision (40%), research (40%), and service (20%).

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed remotely. In cases requiring another interview, candidates may be asked to submit a more detailed research proposal and/or give a short presentation as part of the interview process.

Minimum Qualification

Candidates should have a PhD in Sociology, with specialization in applied sociology and data analysis from a reputable university (candidates with significant post-doctoral experience are strongly encouraged to apply).
