Job description

Immunotherapies have brought about a paradigm shift in cancer treatment from the cancer itself to the host immune system, and have produced unprecedented responses with complete remissions to advanced and metastatic stages of the disease for a subset of patients. Response rates remain low, however, mainly due to the immunosuppressive environments of many tumors. Local therapies capable of activating innate immunity pathways, stimulating tumor inflammation, immune infiltrates and priming the adaptive immune system are urgently needed and considered one of the major strategies to enable immunotherapies to be effective in more patients and cancer types. STING, the main regulator of the interferon response, is one of the major targets for achieving this goal, but current compounds face major limitations due to their systemic toxicity. The present project will address this problem by synthesizing novel STING agonists that respond to stimuli and are selectively activated at the tumor site. Will be done in collaboration with American universities on the East Coast, the candidate will be asked to travel.
