with 50% of the regular working hours for the duration of 3 years.

The time limitation is based on 2 (1) WissZeitVG (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, i.e. temporary science employment act). Therefore, candidates may only be considered who dispose of the respective scope of qualification periods according to 2 (1) WissZeitVG.

Our team investigates and develops statistical methods for clinical studies and studies in health sciences, among others. We also form the Biometrics Department of the Competence Centre for Clinical Studies Bremen (KKBS), where we conduct interdisciplinary research with partners from the medical and health sciences, taking over the planning and statistical evaluation of medical and nursing studies.

Our methodological research interests include multiple statistical inference, adaptive study designs, and methods for evaluation and statistical inference for machine learning process-es. We are also a member of the new Leibniz Science Campus Digital Public Health, where we would like to work on statistical methods for the evaluation of digital health applications (health apps). The research group is well networked regionally and internationally. The position offers the opportunity for a doctorate in one of the research foci of the working group and the possibility to work in applied research cooperations.

Tasks:

  • Participation in the statistical-methodical as well as applied cooperative research of the AG and the Competence Center for Clinical Studies Bremen
  • Working on an own research topic within the minimum scope of a three-year doctorate
  • Teaching in the scope of 2 semester hours per week, support in the supervision of bachelor and master theses which are related to the own research
  • Active participation in project proposals concerning the own research topic
  • Participation in organizing seminars, conferences and workshops

Requirements:

  • A university degree (university diploma/master s degree) in mathematics, statistics or biometrics with above-average results
  • Ability to work in a structured and independent manner
  • Strong team and communication skills
  • Interest in the theoretical and numerical development of statistical methods
  • Interest in participating in applied research projects
  • Interest in a doctorate at the Faculty 3 of the University of Bremen
  • Good previous knowledge and experience with statistic or mathematical software, preferably with R or SAS

Preference is given to applicants who have previous knowledge relevant to one or more of our methodological research areas and who have experience in the statistical analysis of studies.
