The Faculty of Languages and Literatures invites applications for a
Professorship (W2) of German as a Foreign Language
with a Focus on Language Acquisition in Multilingual Contexts
commencing on April 1, 2024.
The applicant is to represent the discipline German as a Foreign Language with a focus on language acquisition in multilingual contexts. This includes the discussion of general questions of multilingual language acquisition and language teaching investigating German as a foreign language in a cross-linguistic context. It is desirable that the applicant has a specialization in one of the following areas: digitally supported teaching and learning processes, cognitive processes of foreign language acquisition, or acquisition and teaching of academic, professional and technical languages.
The professorship is expected to maintain close contact with the neighboring disciplines “German Linguistics” and “Didactics of German Language and Literature”. It is desirable that the successful applicant engages in the future “LMU Center for Linguistics” which will serve as the core for a reorientation of the linguistic disciplines at the Faculty of Languages and Literatures. Furthermore, the successful applicant is expected to participate in the doctoral program of the Graduate School Language & Literature and to commit himself/herself to the maintenance and further development of the degree programs offered by the Institute for German as a Foreign Language. In addition, the professorship is responsible for the scientific monitoring of the Deutsch-Uni-online (DUO) and for coordinating the degree program "Berufssprache Deutsch" in collaboration with TU Munich.
Prerequisites for this position are a university degree, a doctoral degree or a comparable specific qualification, teaching skills at university level, excellent academic achievements and a productive and promising research program.
