Technical Officer (Food Science & Nutrition)

Applications are invited for a Permanent or 3 year Fixed Term post of a Technical Officer (Food Science & Nutrition) within UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science.

University College Dublin is seeking to recruit a Technical Officer in the School of Agriculture and Food Science. The appointee will work with staff in the Food Science and Nutrition section who teach a range of food science and nutrition modules to undergraduate and post graduate students and lead cutting edge research programmes. The successful applicant will manage a range of teaching and research equipment, help in delivery of practical aspects of teaching programmes and support the on-going research as required. The primary duties and responsibilities will involve the Food Science and Nutrition Section; however, the post holder may be required to support other technical areas and teams as required.

Specific duties

• Provision of highly skilled laboratory-based technical support for practical classes and for undergraduate and postgraduate research projects
• Training of undergraduates, postgraduates and research scientists in the use of laboratory techniques including, but not limited to, techniques in food chemistry, food analysis, sensory analysis, food characterization and food microbiology.
• Management and maintenance of Food Science and Nutrition laboratory equipment and facilities and ensuring adherence to good laboratory practice.
• Day-to-day management of laboratory operation, including purchasing of laboratory consumables and coordination of laboratory waste disposal.
• Liaising with principal investigators on a day-to-day basis.
• Other tasks as assigned by the Head of School, or nominee.

Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines
