The newly established Centre for Programmable Biological Matter, led by Professor Jonathan Heddle is a large, multidisciplinary and well-equipped laboratory. We are developing new capabilities aimed at understanding, designing, and building biological nanomachines. Our vision is grand, and we hope our research will lead to break throughs in new materials and therapeutics. These will all be biocompatible, biodegradable and highly sustainable. We are currently recruiting a large number of people to our growing team including several Postdoctoral Research Associates (PDRA).

You will be a lead researcher in a project to investigate the interaction of designed protein cages with the immune system including the investigating cages displaying antigens as novel vaccines. You will design such cages, produce and characterize them and work with collaborates to assess their in vivo effectiveness. You will employ cryo-EM single particle analysis to understand the produced structures at high resolution.

This post is fixed term for 60 months, funding is available until the 31st August 2028. The post-holder is employed to work on research/a research project which will be led by another colleague. Whilst this means that the post-holder will not be carrying out independent research in his/her own right, the expectation is that they will contribute to the advancement of the project, through the development of their own research ideas/adaptation and development of research protocols.

Successful applicants will, ideally, be in post by 1st September 2023.
