About the Role 

We are seeking an outstanding Engineering Lead to take part in the Aerostructures Innovation Research Hub (AIR Hub), which is a world-class collaboration between Australian aerospace industry leaders and research partners. Led by Swinburne University of Technology, the AIR Hub drives transformation of the aerospace sector in Australia by reinforcing the Australia’s pre-eminent position in advanced composites manufacturing for civil aerospace projects and accelerate development of composites manufacturing for integrated structures and airframes in eVTOL urban passenger, cargo and aeromedical air vehicles. 

As the Engineering Lead, AIR Hub you will undertake applied engineering work in the fields of:

  • Advanced composites,
  • Intelligent manufacturing processes,
  • Design and digitalization in aerospace structures.

You will play a key role in supporting the delivery of demonstrator projects applying research to real world aerospace challenges and will help to showcase automated composites manufacturing and, through digitalisation, model-based engineering and design and development process improvement for industry partners. You will also play a key role in ensuring the delivery of best practice engineering.

In this dynamic role, you will support the research and experimentation / testing on specific products and deliverables and utilise your expertise in the latest tools and systems for digitalisation as well as knowledge of the aerospace industry, its materials and manufacturing processes.  You will also support work that is being undertaken by the Industry 4.0 Testlab and the various industry partners. It is expected the incumbent will collaborate effectively with industry partners, research partners and the wider Swinburne team to ensure the delivery of the demonstrator project and develop excellent relationships across the AIR Hub supply chain including service, material, and equipment suppliers. This role will report to the Project Leader of the Clean AIR stream.

About You  

To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities: 

  • Highly developed engineering skillset and project experience with proven success on technical development and build projects.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to work and communicate effectively with industry collaborators and research partners.
  • Highly developed engineering skillset and project experience with proven success on technical development and build projects.
  • Experience and proven ability to collaborate with industry on applied projects in the aerospace or advanced composite manufacturing sectors.
  • Ability to publish research outcomes; or produce other intellectual outputs such as patents

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor (Hons) degree or Master’s Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Materials or Manufacturing Engineering, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
