About the Role
An exciting opportunity has become available to take part in the Aerostructures Innovation Research Hub (AIR Hub), which is a world-class collaboration between Australian aerospace industry leaders and research partners. Led by Swinburne University of Technology, the AIR Hub drives transformation of the aerospace sector in Australia by reinforcing the Australia’s pre-eminent position in advanced composites manufacturing for civil aerospace projects and accelerate development of composites manufacturing for integrated structures and airframes in eVTOL urban passenger, cargo and aeromedical air vehicles.
We are seeking an outstanding Research Engineer, AIR Hub to undertake applied engineering work in the fields of:
- Advanced composites,
- Intelligent manufacturing processes,
- Design and digitalization in aerospace structures.
As the Research Engineer, AIR Hub, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of demonstrator projects applying research to real world aerospace challenges. The output of the Research Engineer, AIR Hub will showcase automated composites manufacturing and, through digitalisation, model-based engineering and design and development process improvement for industry partners. In particular, the successful candidate will be expected to provide expertise in mechanical design of tooling and thermal modelling of the oven heating systems used by industry partners for composite cure during the manufacturing process. You will also participate in aircraft and UAS design activities, including aircraft conceptual design and performance analysis. This position plays a key supporting role in ensuring delivery and best practice engineering.
This expertise will also be required for supporting the research and experimentation / testing on specific products and deliverables. You will be an expert in the latest tools and systems for digitalisation as well as knowledgeable in the aerospace industry, its materials and manufacturing processes and support heavily on work associated with the Industry 4.0 Testlab. As a natural collaborator you will effectively work with industry partners, research partners and internal Swinburne team members to ensure delivery of demonstrator project and develop excellent relationships across the AIR Hub supply chain including service, material and equipment suppliers.
This role will report to the respective Project Leader the Research Engineer, AIR Hub is assigned but will be required to work to the Director, AIR Hub supporting project proposals and concepting.
About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods including a background in analysis
- Interest in Aerospace
- Experience with handling research data including good practise record keeping and database management.
- Previous research assistant experience
Qualifications
A degree in Engineering, Material Science, Chemistry, Mechanical/Chemical Engineering; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
