Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Marine Ecology
Applications are invited for the post of Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Marine Ecology at the University of Southampton, based at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton. We’re looking for a marine ecologist to join a collaborative research group investigating the implications of organism trait variability and environmental change for ecosystem functioning in marine soft sediment systems. Under the direction of Prof. Jasmin Godbold and Prof. Martin Solan, the successful candidate will use Bayesian and/or mixed modelling methodologies to investigate specific traits that make species vulnerable to environmental change and quantify how variation in trait expression in surviving communities’ influences sediment ecosystem functioning. Funded by UKRI NERC, the position will involve direct collaboration with the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas, Dr. Clement Garcia) and the University of Hull (Dr. Jörg Hardege and Dr. Katharina Wollenberg-Valero). The applicant needs to hold a PhD (or equivalent) in marine biology/ecology or a related discipline at time of start date with a background and/or interest in benthic invertebrate communities and will have a demonstrable track record in the use of parameterised modelling methodologies. The successful candidate will work in a collaborative team context to develop trait-based models that predict marine ecosystem futures. The primary purpose of the role is to develop new or advanced research skills and competences, and to publish novel findings in peer-reviewed academic publications.
Enquiries about the post should be made my email to Prof. Jasmin Godbold, j.a.godbold@soton.a
