We have an exciting opportunity for a Qualitative Researcher to join one of the UK’s leading Primary Care Research Centres within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southampton.   You will have the opportunity to train in the internationally endorsed Person-Based Approach to intervention development alongside a vibrant community of researchers.

The project involves working with people living with and caring for those with Multiple Long-Term Conditions (MLTC). You will contribute to and further our existing NIHR programme grant on strategies to tackle the growing health burden of MLTC by considering wider health determinants such as finance, environment, housing and social support. Your will join the Data Science Research Group and contribute to our team’s ongoing work which has established clusters in MLTC based on health and social need. You will conduct a qualitative needs assessment, an integral first step in intervention development within the Person-Based Approach. This will include i) focus groups with service providers to explore their reactions to managing patients assigned by cluster and ii) semi-structured interviews with people living with MLTC, and their carers or relatives, to explore how they identify with specific clusters.

You will be educated to postgraduate degree level and must have strong experience in conducting qualitative research. You will be able to work to deadlines and manage your time independently. You will possess excellent organisational skills. Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.   Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

The successful applicant will join our global top 100 university with an international reputation for research, teaching and enterprise. The Primary Care Research Centre is a member of the NIHR School for Primary Care Research, a national collaboration that provides unique opportunities for networking, training, and multicentre collaborations. In REF 2021, 94% of our research was considered ‘internationally excellent’ or ‘world leading’.
