About the Role 

We are seeking a suitably qualified leader to come join us in the integral role of Director, Academic Operations (DAO).  As the DAO you will be responsible for the leadership and broad spectrum of professional operations within the Academic Operations Unit (AOU) to support the University’s Schools, ensuring that an operational framework is in place to develop and drive the achievement of targets and objectives in line with Swinburne strategy.

Reporting to the Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer (SDVC and CAO), the DAO is member of the Academic Executive Group. Working alongside other DAOs, key to this position is providing expert operational advice to senior executives on a range of matters as well as the leadership and management of the whole Academic Operations Unit.

As a strong collaborator, you will be a key relationship manager between the Schools, SDVC and CAO’s office, senior members of the University and service providers to ensure governance meets delivery and to contribute to a range of University wide projects. You will ensure the delivery of functional services remains closely aligned with both strategic and operational requirements.

You will provide leadership of an efficient and effective professional support team, operating consistently within formal communities of practice that supports the academic staff within the Schools.  You will also lead an assigned portfolio of specialist teams, which will offer expert services across all Schools, providing bespoke advice as and when required.

About You  

To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:

  • Proven ability in developing and executing strategic and operational business plans and policy, and the delivery of these within timeframes and budget.
  • Possess high-level interpersonal skills demonstrated through an ability to collaborate, motivate, influence, and negotiate in the best interests of the AOU, School and University in the context of a matrix reporting structure.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide constructive feedback and develop positive strategies through a consultative and supportive performance review and development process.
  • Strong business and financial acumen and ability to monitor expenditure and ensure effective utilisation of budget allocations to meet objectives.

Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; and/or proven extensive experience in the management of significant human and material resources; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
