Location
Brisbane, Australia
Closing date

The University of Queensland is proud to be ranked in the top 10 universities worldwide for agriculture, and food science and technology, and in the top 20 for plant and animal science. UQ's Faculty of Science is an internationally recognised provider of education and research, home to some of the world’s most innovative scientists, teachers, science programs and commercial ventures and is one of the largest science groupings in Australia.

The School of Agriculture and Food Sustainability is a new School that brings together expertise in agriculture, agribusiness, plant and crop sciences, production animal science, soil science, food science, and international and rural development, from its predecessor Schools: the School of Agriculture and Food Sciences, the School of Biological Sciences, and the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences.

The School is well positioned to address the UN Sustainable development goals relating to: zero hunger, life on land and life under water, and to graduate students who are poised to deliver on these critical issues. Indeed, this School will become a flagship for addressing food security and sustainability on a global scale, while training the future workforce to tackle these challenges in the future.

The academic excellence that defines the School of Agriculture and Food Sustainability will be enabled by amazing staff, high-quality students, and world-class facilities and laboratories on UQ’s St Lucia and Gatton campuses . Drawcards include the Queensland Animal Science Precinct and a 1000-hectare commercial farm and horticultural fields in the fertile Lockyer Valley and a new $30M Plant Growth Facility currently under construction.

From mid 2023, the School will educate more than 1100 full-time equivalent coursework students enrolled in a range of Science and Agriculture related undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs. These programs will deliver truly outstanding on and off-campus experiences for students, including field trips across Australia and overseas.

The School will also train over 150 research higher degree students and engage in a wide range of research projects and programs to address complex issues relating to modern and sustainable agricultural systems, and the nutritional quality and safety of food. Outcomes and impact will be achieved through strong partnerships with industry, government, and other organisations.
