FACULTY OF ARTS

DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE

Assistant Professor of Digital Literary Studies (PR0560/22-23)

The Department of English Language and Literature invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor.

The appointee is expected to teach courses and supervise theses at all levels. Teaching duties at the master's level may be assigned based on curriculum needs. The applicant should be trained in literary studies, yet also capable of transforming and repurposing for the digital age our department's existing teaching and research strengths in contemporary literature, the traditional canon, gender studies, and multi-modal approaches to the teaching of literary texts. The applicant should foster a transdisciplinary vision that resonates with the forward mission of HKBU's transdisciplinary research in digital humanities and data-driven methods necessary to the training of future PhD graduates. Preference will be given to candidates whose transdisciplinary expertise extends beyond traditional literary scholarship to embrace AI-driven teaching and modelling tools, world-building, data analytics of literary corpora, engagement with the metaverse and other post-print modes of literary-humanistic engagement with, and contestation of, augmented and virtual realities driving twenty-first century literary scholarship of the highest caliber. Applicants are expected to produce world-leading research, to obtain research grants, and to organise program-related activities. The appointee will additionally be expected to perform service for the university, community, and profession.

Applicants should possess a PhD degree in English literature or a related literary studies field. They should have a promising record of research publication and a record of success in obtaining external grants-or the potential for doing so.

The appointment is expected to commence on 1 September 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position will remain open until filled. Review of applications begins in April 2023.

Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Application Procedure:

Applicants are invited to submit their applications at the HKBU e-Recruitment System (https://jobs.hkbu.edu.hk). Applicants are requested to send in samples of publications, preferably the three best ones out of their most recent publications, and latest teaching evaluation results. Applicants should also request two referees to send in confidential letters of reference, with PR number (stated above) quoted on the letters, directly to the Human Resources Office (Email: hro@hkbu.edu.hk). Applicants who are not invited for interview 4 months after the submission of application may consider their applications unsuccessful. All application materials including publication samples, scholarly/creative works will be disposed of after completion of the recruitment exercise unless upon request. Details of the University's Personal Information Collection Statement can be found at https://hro.hkbu.edu.hk/pics.

The University reserves the right not to make an appointment for the advertised post, and the appointment will be offered according to the terms and conditions applicable at the time of offer.

Review of applications is ongoing until the position is filled.
