As a result of the recent expansion in Clinical Psychology Doctoral training we have a number of exciting opportunities available for innovative Clinical Researcher Psychologists to join the Clinical Psychology Training Programme at the University of Surrey. We are seeking to appoint enthusiastic and dynamic Clinical Psychologists (or equivalent) working in the field of Clinical Psychology, with demonstrated experience working clinically as well as a growing track record of clinically-relevant research. The post would suit a Clinician with research ambition and a drive to produce impactful interventions for people experiencing distress, their families, and/or the professionals who work with them. The posts are available at a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level, dependent on experience.

We welcome applications from Clinical Psychologists located across a variety of settings, to contribute broadly to the programme. These include, but are not limited to, Neuropsychology, Older Adults, Learning Disabilities, Health Psychology and Community Psychology, and whose work strives to address social justice, health inequalities and under-served communities. We are interested in applicants with a range of research methodological expertise, including qualitative and mixed methods. We would anticipate that applicants’ work is underpinned by a comprehensive understanding of theory, and adopts a collaborative or co-design approach with those who experience distress or care for those in distress.

The Clinical Psychology Team are a welcoming, innovative and cohesive group with a wide variety of research interests and expertise in training. We are looking to appoint a Clinically trained Researcher who will enhance or complement our existing strengths reflected in our three research groups:

• Applied Clinical and Health Psychology – including developing interventions to support better perinatal mental health, aging well, living with long-term illness and disability, disordered eating.
• Social Justice and Inequalities in Mental Health – including increasing access to psychological therapies for underserved communities, tackling mental health stigma, locating distress in social context (such as poverty, war/conflict, violence, trauma, abuse, and discrimination), this intersection of distress with race, class, sexuality, gender, disability, and other social inequalities.
• Pedagogical Research – exploring effective teaching and training methods and implementation across the Department of Psychological Interventions.

The role will be based in the School of Psychology at the University of Surrey, which has an outstanding reputation for applied psychology training and research. You will be joining a vibrant Department with an active research culture and a clear remit to develop and extend the reach of Clinical Psychological research. 

We are keen to appoint a Clinical Researcher who works well as a member of a team, and is passionate about developing the clinical and research competencies of our Trainee Clinical Psychologists. All post-holders must hold a clinical doctorate in psychology, or equivalent, and will be expected to contribute directly to evaluation of clinical competencies, links with local NHS Trusts, research supervision, teaching and learning and the day to day administrative tasks of the programme In addition to the salary, you will receive a generous annual leave entitlement, excellent development opportunities, and access to an on-site nursery.
