Multi’omics approaches to investigating Immune dysregulation in allergic and associated respiratory disease

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research fellow which is available immediately in the Food and Molecular Immunology research group led by Professor Clare Mills in the Immunology Section of the School of Biosciences and Medicine, University of Surrey.  The post forms part of an ongoing collaboration with Waters Corporation and the Respiratory Medicine Group at the University of Manchester and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

The overall focus of the post is to investigate the molecular basis of immunological responses to infections and allergic responses to foods using multi’omics approaches, linking molecular profiles to clinical phenotypes. This makes use of biological and clinical samples from the Manchester Respiratory Medicine team collected through the Manchester Allergy, Respiratory and Thorasic Surgery Biobank and the iFAAM and PAFA projects and the recently funded Horizon Europe project GiantLeaps. These will be used to support the development and refinement of cell based models mimicking the epithelial environments (particularly the gut and the lungs) in inflamed (e.g. allergic) and healthy (e.g. tolerant) states.

We are therefore looking for a highly motivated individual with a PhD in a biochemistry or biological chemistry science and proven ability in the application of mass spectrometry tools to analysis of biological samples. A knowledge of allergic and associated respiratory diseases, such as asthma, would be beneficial.

We are part of the growing and vibrant Section of Immunology located at the beautiful campus of the University of Surrey, close to London. The Section is within the Department of Biochemical Sciences and links to the unique capability in single cell imaging with mass spectrometry which builds on the National ion beam facility.
