Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Veterinary Medicine

The overall aim of this project is to develop early warning systems to detect the re-emergence of Bovine Viral Diarrhoea Virus (BVDV) within Irish cattle herds. This project is funded by the Irish Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine.

Using national cattle demographic data systems, this project will generate algorithms to detect, in close to real time, times at which the occurrence of animal health metrics or production values deviate from predicted or expected values, and to predict re-emergence events using machine-learning methods. A multidisciplinary approach incorporating experts in animal health and national disease control, epidemiology and statistical analysis will ensure the methods used are at the cutting age in data analytics yet grounded in sound principles of animal disease control and epidemiology and are appropriate to the specific and unique challenges posed by the application of these methods to BVDV.

Salary: 42,033 per annum
