Description
The Chaudhury Laboratory in the Division of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a highly motivated Research Assistant to work on the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the association between stress, sleep and circadian rhythms.
The successful applicant will help in the day-to-day running of the lab that will involve (i) placing order for chemicals and equipment when needed, (ii) manage general running of the lab and (iii) coordinate undergraduate lab training. Moreover, the applicant will be involved, as needed, in various projects related to understanding the molecular pathways and neural circuits that play a role in the association between stress, sleep-wake cycle and circadian rhythms. We have recently published papers on the association between stress and circadian rhythms (Liu et al., 2021) and stress and sleep-wake cycle (Radwan et al., 2021a, b, c). To follow up from these studies the Research Assistant will help in studies that will use the following techniques: Behavioral paradigms of stress, immunohistochemistry, molecular assays (e.g. PCR, Western, scRNAseq etc), in-vitro and in-vivo electrophysiology and in-vitro and in-vivo imaging. Experience in any of these techniques would be useful but will be taught as needed. Experience with coding would be beneficial but not necessary. The successful applicant will work in a multi-disciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists, graduate and undergraduate students.
Applicants must have a BSc or MSc in Biology, Neuroscience or related field and must be willing to handle mice and humanly euthanize them upon completion of the experiment. General lab experience with molecular assays and immunohistochemistry is a requirement and experience in neuroscience such as behavioral assays would be highly desirable. Knowledge of Matlab/ Python is an added advantage. Motivation and ability to learn new techniques is a must.
The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children. Applications will be accepted immediately and candidates will be considered until the position is filled. To be considered, all applicants must submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, transcript of degree, a one-page summary of research accomplishments and interests, and at least 2 letters of recommendation, all in PDF format. If you have any questions, please email Prof. Dipesh Chaudhury at dc151@nyu.edu.
