About the opportunity

The position is located at Charles Perkins Centre, a leading multidisciplinary research institute of the University of Sydney.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, talented, and passionate Research Officer to provide operational and administrative support and leadership to Charles Perkins Centre's Theme of Physical Activity, Exercise and Energy Expenditure, which is led by Professor Emmanuel Stamatakis.

The incumbent will primarily support the activities within the newly founded Mackenzie Wearables Hub at Charles Perkins Centre. They will also support the data collection and management of a laboratory and free-living studies led by Prof Stamatakis' research group.

This is a great opportunity for an outstanding Research Officer to develop a strong career in health-related research and gain substantial experience and receive training on wearables-based measurement of physical activity and sleep, including machine learning related methods.

Your key responsibilities will be to-

  • Coordinate the activity of the Mackenzie Wearables Hub and manage relations with the multiple parties involved
  • maintain detailed records of equipment use, maintain and prepare project progress reports
  • support research work, laboratory and free-living studies of human participants, or monitor routine aspects of the research, or source information to aid research work
  • consult with external collaborators, lead the preparation of research protocols
  • coordinate data collection, grant applications and submissions, preparation of research reports
  • support routine aspects of other research activities undertaken by the Chief Investigator and his team
  • provide administrative support to the Mackenzie Wearables Hub and the Chief Investigator's team.

About you -

  • Honors degree with relevant experience in a related field, or first degree in a related area and substantial experience as research assistant/officer
  • proven experience working in a research-intensive environment
  • outstanding inter-personal skills and capacity to resolve challenging situations in the most professional manner
  • proven organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple projects and streams of activities
  • extensive experience in developing and working on research projects, including expertise in using research protocols
  • advanced skills in MS Office (Excel, Word, data analysis, using statistical analysis tools, and reporting on research findings
  • experience with ethics submissions and grant applications.
