Role Description

The modern world is complex and highly interconnected and is enabled and delivered through complex systems and enterprises comprising people, information, processes and technology. The Centre of Excellence for Complex Systems creates, utilises and promotes systems thinking and other systems methodologies in order to better address the design, development and management of socio-technical systems.

About the Role

This exciting new post will contribute to research on a project as part of a large team. It involves research activities such as ensuring the delivery of the project goals and the participation in the organisational, management and dissemination activities in support of the project. It will also involve supporting the development, exploitation and integration of investigated methods into air transport system of systems infrastructure, scenarios and the in-house aero-engine design frameworks.

Working with a leading aircraft manufacturer, you will support a range of research activities within this project. You will perform stakeholder analysis and strategy modelling considering various stakeholders and decision-makers, and characterise and map stakeholder behaviours, values and beliefs as well as emergence behaviours within the complex socio-technical system of air transportation.

You will develop methodologies, models and simulations using system dynamics, agent-based or discrete event simulation, and wargaming for sustainable and resilient air transport system.

About You

As a Research Assistant you will have a Masters in a relevant subject.  As a Research Fellow you will have a PhD (or close to completion) in a relevant discipline. 

You will have experience of literature review, qualitative and quantitative data analysis and modelling and simulation.  Knowledge of system dynamics, discrete event simulation, agent-based modelling is essential. 

Excellent planning and organisational skills, ability to prioritise and respond within a fast-paced environment is key for these roles.  You will have a high level of presentation and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with senior industrial management.
