Job Details

CPOM is a world-leading centre that creates and uses satellite observations and numerical models to study processes occurring at Earth’s polar latitudes.  Its core work is funded as UK national capability science by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) in partnership with the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), and this underpins a broader programme of research carried out in collaboration with a wide range of strategic partners including the European Space Agency. At Northumbria, CPOM will be closely aligned with established interdisciplinary research themes on Extreme Environments, Global Development, and Space.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Working within the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences, all three posts will provide expertise to further enhance our research, teaching and entrepreneurial activities related to polar observations and modelling. This will include designing, developing and delivering high-quality teaching activities, undertaking individual and joint research to produce high-quality academic outputs, and participating in external activity to generate income, promote the subject, and raise the University’s profile. It will also include building new collaborations within the Department and beyond, to capitalise on the opportunity that the relocation of CPOM to Northumbria presents.

As a senior Academic colleague, you will assist the Faculty Pro Vice-Chancellor to maintain and enhance the University’s national and international reputation in your academic field. You must demonstrate continuing academic achievement and provide academic leadership (of your subject and associated colleagues) through active contribution to your discipline and to the life and work of the Faculty and the wider University. This will include contributing to significant change within practice, the discipline, profession and/or community at regional, national, and international level.

QUALIFICATIONS

To be successful in this role you will have externally recognised research outputs of a quality that are internationally excellent in terms of originality, significance and rigour, and demonstrable success in securing research funding. You should also demonstrate academic leadership experience and strong standing with external bodies and networks in your field.
