About the position:
A permanent full-time position as associate professor in the academic community for Games & Entertainment Technology is currently available at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Nord university. We are primarily interested in an educator / researcher with expertise in video games design, development, and programming. Experience with game engines like Unreal and Unity3D, and experience with game design will be regarded as an advantage. The successful applicant will partake in the faculty’s teaching programs, primarily in game design, programming-rich subjects, and game development.

For the Games & Entertainment Technology group the research focus is innovative development and use of ICT, multimedia and games for a broader purpose than only entertainment. The faculty at the Games & Entertainment Technology group is working closely with the national and international games industry to provide the students with a dynamic and relevant setting for learning about development and use of video games technology.

The study program is international, and the teaching language is English. We seek to strengthen both research and teaching and are therefore looking for applicants with relevant national and international connections, motivated to help build a strong, relevant, and productive research environment at Nord University.

The Games & Entertainment Technology bachelor program is currently part of the Centre for Excellent IT Education (Excited).

In the event of an insufficient number of applicants or if there are other reasons why it is not possible to appoint an Associate Professor/Assistant Professor, the position of Lecturer could be offered. When appointing a Lecturer, the Faculty will ensure that a skills development plan is drawn up to ensure that the employee can qualify for an associate position over time.

The position is located to campus Levanger.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Teaching and supervising students at the bachelor program Games and Entertainment Technology.
  • Research and Development, including dissemination.
  • Development of existing courses and new study programs within the field.
  • Contributions in the development of externally financed research projects are expected, in addition to networking with public and private stakeholders within the field.

Qualification requirements:

Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer)

Experience in relevant higher-education practice, based on teaching and supervision, and either:

1. Having a Norwegian doctoral degree (or a corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognised as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree) in a relevant subject area, or competence at a corresponding level documented by academic work of the same scope and quality,

or,

2. Can evidence artistic activities or development work, research activity, or professional practice at a high international level, judged to be equivalent to a doctoral degree, in the subject area concerned.

Assistant Professor:

Experience in relevant higher-education practice, based on teaching and supervision, and either:

1. Having a Norwegian Master’s degree (or a corresponding foreign postgraduate degree recognised as equivalent to a Norwegian          Master’s degree) in a relevant subject area,

or,

2. Can evidence relevant artistic activities or development work, research activity, or professional practice judged to be equivalent to a
postgraduate degree in the subject area concerned.

Lecturer:

1. For appointment to the post of Lecturer, we expect relevant higher education, master's degree or equivalent in social sciences, media studies, information science or similar. This needs to be documented with proof of degree, references, relevant publications or research material, and proof of relevant practical work through attestation or samples.

Common for all:

Applicants must provide documentary proof to show that they possess basic skills in respect of the planning, implementation, evaluation and development of teaching and supervision. New supplementary provisions on professional educational competence came into force on 1 September 2019. For further information please refer to Nord University’s website. Any applicants who are unable to provide documentary proof of adequate professional educational competence when employed must acquire such competence over the course of a two-year period. Nord University offers a course on University Pedagogy which covers this requirement.

Applicants who do not speak Norwegian (or another Scandinavian language), will be expected to complete language courses up to and including level B2 under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) within a timeframe agreed upon appointment.

Qualified applicants will be ranked according to the following criteria:

  • Research and development relevant to the position
  • Educational background
  • Publications from the last five years will be given special emphasis
  • Experience with international research networks and externally funded projects
  • Experience in teaching and supervision at Bachelor and Master levels from higher education institutions
  • Pedagogical qualifications
  • Experience from game industry and/or other relevant industries
  • Good skills in communicating and collaborating with students and colleagues
  • Personal qualities which can contribute positively to the academic environment

We offer:

The salary for the position is in accordance with the Norwegian government’s regulations, code 1011(research-oriented) for Associate Professor, code 1198 for Assistant Professor and code 1009 for Lecturer. Salary by agreement. A mandatory salary deduction is made to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

Application process:
Applicants will be evaluated by an expert committee. Short-listed applicants will be called for an interview and trial lecture. These will be decisive for the appointment.

If there are many applicants, an internal committee may be convened to identify the most relevant candidates in the pool. These candidates will then be evaluated by an expert committee. All applicants will be advised in writing of the outcome.
