11 PhD Positions in Europe in MultiSMART: Multi-component Soft Materials Advanced Research Training

11 Doctoral Candidates (DC) and PhD students, in Chemistry, Physics or Biology, will be hired in 2023 within the Doctoral Network MultiSMART, composed of 6 Universities, 1 Research Institute and 3 Private Sector partners (from France, Spain, The Netherlands, Germany, United Kingdom, see list below). All DC will be enrolled in a local PhD program, including those hired by the private sector. Mobility as well as excellent scientific and soft-skill qualifications of the DC will be promoted throughout the network with (i) common research goals, (ii) two temporary 3-months stays at network partners (secondments), one being in the private sector, (iii) regular schools and workshops. The Doctoral Network is financed by the European Union under the framework of the program HORIZON Europe, Marie Sk odowska-Curie Actions, and coordinated by Pr. André Del Guerzo from the Université de Bordeaux. The DC will be hired for 36 months under contract by the University or the Private sector with a monthly gross salary typically exceeding 3000 € (depending on the country, including a mobility allowance), with an additional family allowance depending on the marital status of the DC. Mobility of the candidates is required for EU positions (see rule below). The application deadline depends on the individual position. We are looking for candidates, without gender discrimination or nationality, with a Master degree in chemistry, physics or biology, depending on the laboratory in which research will take place. Candidates can apply for multiple positions, if qualifications and eligibility rules are respected. In summary, the procedure is as follows: (1) Candidates apply by e-mail to the University/Partner of interest (see e-mails in individual advertisements); (2) CVs of eligible candidates will be shared amongst all partners; (3) selected candidates are interviewed; (4) chosen candidates will be offered a position and have to confirm acceptance by writing for their first choice only; (5) the successful application will be confirmed, after consult with the supervisory board, by an employment contract.

The PhD projects are described in the individual advertisements that can be found on Euraxess and other dedicated sites. The research topics include synthesis of environmental-friendly and biocompatible gelators, characterization of structures and properties of multi-component soft materials, fluorescence microscopy studies of the materials, structural elucidation by Xray and neutron scattering techniques, computational modeling of materials, biological evaluation of cell growth matrices, industrial applications as sustainable cosmetics and detergents, evaluation of applications for drug delivery and regenerative medicine.
