Job Purpose:
To report to and assist the ‘Principal’ in the general management of the College, with specific responsibilities delegated as agreed. To work alongside and deputise for the Principal in her/his absence.
To provide strategic leadership and direction to the curriculum, quality, and student support service
functions within the College to enable and to facilitate the delivery of high quality education and
training.
To manage the curriculum areas of the College effectively to achieve high student outcomes and
progression
To assist the ‘Principal’ and Governance Board: in securing the highest possible educational standards for students and in creating an atmosphere in which staff have high expectations of students.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- To report to and assist the ‘Principal’ with College Management, in relation to all academic matters.
- To work effectively with the Principal and the Senior Management Team to ensure the strategic aims and objectives of the College are achieved.
- To implement regular performance monitoring and accountability processes that ensure continuous improvement in student progress and outcomes.
- To oversee the supervision of the office, administrative and other support staff, in conjunction with other relevant line managers.
- To oversee the smooth operations of the estate, in conjunction with the Senior Management Team, assuming a leading role in the development of its facilities and resources.
- To develop and implement suitable channels of communication across College activities, ensuring that timely and appropriate information is communicated to staff.
- To assist the ‘Principal’ in maintaining an inspirational working environment underpinned through a positive ethos in which individuals feel valued and where personal endeavour and responsibility are encouraged.
- To assist the ‘Principal’ in setting an example of high quality performance in standards and leadership.
- To promote and maintain procedures and practices which facilitate equality and diversity across all College operations and strategic developments.
- To co-ordinate activities to meet the requirements of any external assessment or inspection process imposed upon the College, acting as the College nominee as necessary.
- To develop, plan, implement and monitor personnel procedures operating within the College, in conjunction with the HR Coordinator, assuming a direct responsibility for them as appropriate.
- To participate in the College’s Appraisal Scheme and carry out appraisals for relevant staff in line with College policy and procedures in their area of responsibility.
- To co-ordinate the adequate recruitment and deployment of staff to ensure that agreed curricular and support provision can be implemented.
- To oversee all curriculum and timetable planning occurring within the College, monitoring developments and developing potential strategies to deal with envisaged changes of provision.
- To monitor course changes, developing structures to analyse choice trends and reasons for change.
- To establish, maintain and develop effective relationships with external agencies and other stakeholders.
- To be responsible for ensuring the College maintains its validation status with relevant HE validation partners.
- To be responsible for ensuring the College is always ready and prepared for a QAA or other regulatory audit or inspection and where appropriate act as nominee.
- To support students in their academic and social development, and to implement the College’s Student Code of Conduct, reinforcing disciplinary measures as necessary.
- To convene and chair meetings as appropriate.
- To undertake other duties as may reasonably be requested by the ‘Deputy CEO and Group Principal.
Qualification:
- Recognised Teaching Qualification (Essential)
- Higher Education Degree / Further studies qualification (Desirable)
Leadership Experience/Knowledge:
- Recent experience of working successfully as a senior or middle leader in a school
- Experience of turning policy into effective and successful practice
- Leadership of a significant area or phase or inclusion
- Responsibility for the progress of a range of students
- A clear understanding of the essential qualities necessary for effective teaching and learning
- Up to date knowledge of statutory regulations and guidance relating to the post
- Experience in leading and managing a school team/s to successfully achieve agreed goals
- Evidence of a whole school responsibility with a measurable, positive impact (Desirable)
- Pastoral oversight of students
- Working successfully with external agencies
General Skills:
- The ability to analyse data, to evaluate the performance of pupil groups, pupil progress and plan an appropriate course of action
- The ability to develop and deliver effective and inspirational professional development for staff (including mentoring and coaching as appropriate)
- The ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of different audiences
- The ability to demonstrate high quality teaching strategies
- The ability to support, motivate and inspire both colleagues and pupils by leading through example
