The role  

The role is based within the Health, Safety and Risk Directorate, working in a team of eight, delivering support across the five faculties and professional services. We are recruiting to specifically support the Faculty of Environmental and Life Sciences, which includes Biological Sciences, Health Sciences, Geographical and Environmental Science, Ocean and Earth Science and Psychology

The role is pivotal in supporting the Health and Safety aspects of all faculty activities, which includes teaching, fieldwork, research and laboratory work. You will be supporting the Dean and faculty management teams in understanding their health and safety responsibilities through training, advice and regular reports. An important part of the role is to support line managers to implement University health and safety policies by providing guidance and practical support in technical environments such as laboratories and workshops. 

About you 

You will have excellent technical and communication skills and will be a qualified health and safety professional with a background and experience in a scientific environment.  

You will be a positive and proactive problem solver with the ability to manage a mixture of planned and reactive health and safety issues and able to ensure that work within the Faculty is consistently safe and to a high standard. You will be a strong team player, but also be self-sufficient and able to work independently.
