The School of Information and Physical Sciences at the University of Newcastle, Australia is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer, Computing and IT, within the Discipline of Computing and IT. The successful candidates will contribute to a dynamic, transdisciplinary and globally competitive research environment through research collaboration, securing external grant income, delivering high quality publication outcomes and attracting higher degree research students. Industry partnerships and collaborations are an important aspect of the role. The successful candidates will also contribute to a lively, passionate and internationally recognised teaching environment through curriculum development, innovative course delivery and excellent student engagement.

The Role

The position will encompass teaching postgraduate and undergraduate courses in Computing and IT (Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Cyber Security), including large first-year classes comprising students from diverse study programs and engage with flexible courses delivery modes and innovative teaching practices

In addition, the role will:

  • Provide leadership in research and foster increased cooperation between the University and allied research affiliates.
  • Attract industry-based research support and competitive external grant funding to the University. 
  • Establish and build an independent research program to attract undergraduate and higher degree students.
  • Contribute to teaching within undergraduate and postgraduate programs as required.
  • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of new programs as required.
  • Contribute to service activities within the School and College to maintain academic standards and administrative effectiveness.

This continuing position is full time and will be located at the Callaghan Campus (Awabakal and Worimi land).

How will you become part of our community?

With a passion for teaching and a flair for researching in Computing and IT, you will have proven experience in working autonomously, goal setting and prioritising to provide adaptive teaching methods, such as online teaching and the demonstration of online tutorials. You will have capability and eagerness to engage and network with external stakeholders and to secure research funding and to assist industry in solving highly complex technical problems. You can demonstrate a strong research trajectory though successful publication in high-impact academic journals in the areas of Computing and IT.

The remuneration for this position is from $126,446 + 17% superannuation.
