Position Summary
Dominican is seeking an experienced individual to serve as course instructor for an undergraduate-level online service-learning philosophy course “Healthcare Ethics and Equity” (4 units). Classroom size is 18 students. Adjunct faculty at Dominican are members of SEIU, and must reside in California even though the work is remote.
Responsibilities
Course Description
An introduction to ethical theory in Western philosophy followed by an investigation of the communal, institutional, social policy, and global dimensions of healthcare. Through community engagement, students practice civic professionalism and gain first-hand exposure to the ways in which existing social structures impact access and equity, especially for vulnerable populations. This course only satisfies the CORE requirement when offered as a service-learning course.

Adjunct Compensation
Adjunct Faculty members are employed in a professional capacity at the University. For courses, including service-learning courses and laboratories, the University compensates Adjunct Faculty Members on a per-unit basis for Course-Related Work as set forth in Article 15 of the CBA. All other duties or work performed on behalf of the University as an Adjunct Faculty Member are compensated in accordance with Article 12 – Faculty Development or Article 16 – Special Compensation. Adjunct Faculty Members who teach on a per-unit basis shall receive compensation per unit for assignments as an instructor for a credit-bearing course or laboratory. Movement through the step system shall be based on total number of Dominican Points and satisfactory performance, as set forth in Article 13, Performance Evaluation.
