General Requirements

The appointee is expected to teach the common core course Critical Thinking (mostly for non-philosophy major students) and undergraduate courses in one or more areas in which the department has teaching needs. Currently, the department has teaching needs in: History of Western Philosophy (Ancient Greek and Modern), Philosophy and Ethics of AI, Philosophy of Arts (esp. Philosophy of Photography, Literature, or Cinema), Philosophy of Religion, Social Epistemology and Ethics of Risk. Candidates demonstrating the ability to teach in more than one area will be preferred. The language of instruction is English (Proficiency in Cantonese and/or Mandarin is an advantage but not a must.) The candidate will teach 10 courses per year (30 hours/year), distributed according to the departmental needs and upon mutual agreement.

Applicants should have a master’s degree or above in Philosophy with at least four years’ relevant experience. Applicants with less experience will be considered for appointment as Assistant Lecturer.

Appointment

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity and incoming passage and baggage allowance for eligible appointee. Appointment will normally be made on contract basis for up to two years.
