Job Description

The Mechanobiology Institute (MBI), National University of Singapore is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Fellow (Research Fellow) to join Asst. Prof. Andrew Holle’s Confinement Mechanobiology group (established Jan 2021).

The broad objective of the Confinement Mechanobiology Lab is to use mechanobiology principles and recent observations on the nature of small, fluid-filled ‘cellular highways’ in the interstitial extracellular matrix (ECM) to identify, engineer, and leverage the role of confinement in cell biology. We are interested in leveraging new molecular biology tools, including RNA-Seq, CRISPR screens, ChIP-seq, and engineered tensions sensor probes to better understand the mechanical and genetic responses of the nucleus to self-induced cellular confinement, and then extend these findings to the cytoskeleton, focal adhesions, and extracellular matrix. Applicants with unique proposals relating to confinement mechanobiology within the scope of the lab, especially in the areas of microfluidics, cellular engineering, or biomaterials development are also encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

Candidates with a PhD in bioengineering, biology, biomedical sciences, or similar fields are encouraged to apply. They should have a strong background in mechanobiology, molecular biology techniques, microscopy, and image analysis. Prior knowledge of microfluidics are not a prerequisite, but can be advantageous. The candidate should possess excellent communication skills and engage in collaborative research in a highly interdisciplinary environment.

Salary and benefits are commensurable to educational qualifications and working experience of the candidates.

The MBI and NUS provide state-of-the-art facilities dedicated to microfluidics, high-resolution imaging, and cell culture that will support the fellow in training, setup, and execution of the project.

TO APPLY

Applications should be sent via email to Asst. Prof. Andrew Holle at bieawh@nus.edu.sg. Application documents include: 1) a brief description of research interests and experience, and 2) a full CV, with the names and contacts (email addresses) of two to three references.

Covid-19 Message

At NUS, the health and safety of our staff and students are one of our utmost priorities, and COVID-vaccination supports our commitment to ensure the safety of our community and to make NUS as safe and welcoming as possible. Many of our roles require a significant amount of physical interactions with students/staff/public members. Even for job roles that may be performed remotely, there will be instances where on-campus presence is required.

Taking into consideration the health and well-being of our staff and students and to better protect everyone in the campus, applicants are strongly encouraged to have themselves fully COVID-19 vaccinated to secure successful employment with NUS.
