Sheffield Hallam University is one of the UK’s largest and most diverse universities: a community of more than 30,000 students, 4,000 staff and more than 280,000 alumni around the globe. Our mission is simple: we transform lives. Our vision is to be the world's leading applied university; showing what a university genuinely focused on transforming lives can achieve.
Shortlisted this year for the Times Higher Education (THE) University of the Year, in the last three years we have been university of the year in the UK Social Mobility Awards and the Educate North awards, the Good University Guide’s university of the year for teaching quality, as well as receiving THE’s awards for entrepreneurial university of the year and for the outstanding contribution to the local community. The University leads thinking on higher education policy, civic engagement, widening participation and the role of universities as drivers of success in their communities. Our College, Social Sciences and Arts (SSA) has seen improving trends across all areas of NSS, strong PTES performance and some fantastic creative pedagogical practice.
We are now looking for our next Associate Dean Teaching and Learning, to provide visible strategic leadership for T&L within the College, working closely with a highly engaged and collaborative T&L leadership team and heads of department to implement ambitious institutional portfolio redevelopment plans and translate the University’s LTA Framework into a college context.
As our next Associate Dean Teaching and Learning you will bring a record of individual teaching excellence, influence and esteem, giving you the credibility to implement your vision. As a member of the University’s T&L Leadership Team, you will show a level of leadership presence, confidence and resilience that means you can lead significant change within a complex, multi-disciplinary portfolio and represent the College and its interests at the highest levels. You will have collaborative approach, coupled with the interpersonal and people management skills required to develop strong relationships, manage competing demands from a variety of stakeholders and exercise influence at all levels. Additionally, you will have, a strong understanding of the HE T&L environment including the relationship between theory, research, practice, policy and regulations – and the impact this has on student experience and outcomes.
Importantly, as a member of the College Leadership Team, you will share our ‘Hallam Values’ of ambition, collaboration, inclusion, innovation and integrity, visibly role modelling these to staff both within the College and externally.
This is a key appointment for us, and it will be for you, so we will invest time to get to know you and to give you the chance to get to know us. For a confidential discussion please contact our advising consultants at GatenbySanderson:
