At the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Department of Forest Sciences, the Institute of Silviculture and Forest Protection invites applications for the
Chair (W3) of Silviculture
to be filled as of April 1, 2024.
The chair will represent the analysis of processes in forest ecosystems and the design of forest management practices, especially taking into account requirements of climate-smart forest conversion, in research, teaching and transfer of knowledge to the public. Key challenges of global change should be integrated into the chair’s research profile, for example with modern research approaches about degraded forests and reforestation, to efficient procedures of forest management practices, and forest design to maintain and develop diverse ecosystem services in the course of securing biodiversity. Your teaching obligations comprise the full scope of silviculture in the bachelor’s and master’s programs “Forest Sciences”, the international master’s program “Tropical Forestry” and further study programs of TU Dresden. We expect your active participation in academic self-administration. Skills for conducting lectures in the English language are a prerequisite. Your responsibilities also include the experience and ability to conduct interdisciplinary research and the willingness for active cooperation with researchers from other disciplines within the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, especially in the emerging field water research, other faculties and the interdisciplinary research networks of TU Dresden. We expect your participation in the CIPSEM (Center for International Postgraduate Studies of Environmental Management) and the collaboration with the Dresden-based Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and Resources (UNU-FLORES) of the United Nations University.
We are seeking an internationally renowned candidate (m/f/x) with profound knowledge and experience in the field of forest ecosystem research and silviculture, as proven by a record of first-class publications. You are visible in the international research community and possess experience in the acquisition of third-party funding. Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 58 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG).
