King’s College London in partnership with the Trustees of the Foundation for Liver Research are seeking to appoint a Professor of Hepatology within the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine at King’s College London & the Director of the Roger Williams Institute of Hepatology.
The Roger Williams Institute of Hepatology is governed by the Foundation for Liver Research, which has supported research programmes into liver disease for more than fifty years, including much of the early pioneering work at King’s College Hospital into liver transplantation and acute liver failure. The purpose-built centre opened in 2016 on King’s College Hospital’s Denmark Hill campus and houses state-of-the-art laboratories for up to 65 scientists, supporting research organised around the theme of liver cell injury and repair.
This appointment provides an outstanding opportunity to lead hepatology research at the nexus of three leading institutions: Roger Williams Institute of Hepatology, King’s College London, and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We are seeking to appoint an outstanding academic with a compelling track record and ongoing programme of research in liver disease. The Director will play a leading role in developing an inspirational and achievable vision for the Institute of Hepatology that is aligned to the mission of its main funding body, the Foundation for Liver Research, and the research and clinical priorities of academic and clinical partners in liver disease.
With responsibility for scientific and academic leadership including developing a research strategy, the appointee will be an academically relevant leader with significant experience in attracting research funding. The successful applicant will bring the required skills to foster interdisciplinary partnerships and successfully extend their reach across the three prestigious institutions, strengthening translational research. The appointee will foster a stimulating, innovative and inclusive environment, enabling students and staff to thrive and develop.
Experience of fostering strong links with NHS providers would be advantageous. Medically qualified candidates could be offered an honorary consultant contract.
