Western Sydney University is a modern, forward thinking, research-led university, located in the heart of Australia’s fastest growing and most economically significant region, Western Sydney. The University, which has nearly 50,000 students and over 3500 staff, serves the region, through 13 Schools which offer an array of well-designed programs and degrees carefully structured to meet the demands of future industry and the local community. The School of Medicine was established in 2004. It is based in state-of-the-art facilities on the University’s Campbelltown campus and has deep connections with hospitals, local health districts and the broader clinical community in Western Sydney.

The Dean provides leadership to a team of more than 120 FTE staff and is responsible for a budget of $32 million and 760 EFTSL. It is expected the Dean will develop a strategic vision focused on innovation and excellence in research, education and engagement. Alignment of research and teaching programs with local communities, often disadvantaged, is a key element, as is the ability to foster closer links between teaching and research staff.

This role represents an opportunity to lead an emerging medical school with abundant opportunities. These include significant investment in the Western Sydney area, major infrastructure development, and a rapidly growing population. Of primary importance will be the ability of the successful candidate to embrace the mission and social vision of the University, integrate into the local community and understand Western Sydney’s important role within that community. The University is seeking medically qualified individuals, with a strong research track record and the ability to engage successfully with researchers and clinicians at every level, both internally and externally.
