As a world-leading research-intensive University, we are here to address tomorrow’s greatest challenges. Between now and 2030 we will do that with a values-led approach to teaching, research, and innovation, and through the strength of our relationships, both locally and globally. Edinburgh is a truly global university and we have always had a commitment to diversity and a community in which students feel valued and welcome.

The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies has an international reputation for its research, teaching and clinical services. Our mission is to benefit society and the environment by educating veterinary surgeons to become members of global public and professional health care teams, and to advance veterinary and comparative medicine through research into disease and disease processes with the goal of improving the health and welfare of both animals and humans. Further, and through the Roslin Institute, our Global Academy of Agriculture and Food Systems (GAAFS) and our Data-Driven Innovation (DDI) Agritech Hub, we aim to educate the next generation of Agri-leaders and to develop research solutions to solve the grand challenges relating to food systems and planetary health.

The School enjoys an international reputation for excellence in teaching, research and clinical service. The School consistently ranks in the top 10 internationally on QS and Shanghai subject rankings and consistently ranks 1st in the UK by The Guardian and Times Higher Education metrics. Our success is attributed to the high quality of our staff, our students, and our position in one of the world’s highest ranked Universities.

Candidates may come from a variety of backgrounds but must be a veterinarian and have an international reputation in research and/or teaching, but can come from a clinical or non-clinical background. We are also looking for someone with significant management experience, or with evidence of experience which shows their ability to quickly develop the skills needed to be an effective Head of School, thereby providing both academic and executive leadership of the school.

We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, and applicants from minority groups are particularly welcomed.

The University of Edinburgh is willing to consider flexible working or job share arrangements for this appointment.
