Applications are invited for a Temporary (3 year) or Permanent post of a Lecturer / Assistant Professor in Horticulture within UCD School of Agriculture & Food Science.

Applications are invited for the post of Assistant Professor in Horticulture within the Environment & Sustainable Resource Management Section and the Horticulture Group at UCD School of Agriculture & Food Science. The Horticulture Group focuses on Sustainable Food Production and Environmental Horticulture, aligned with the UCD Strategic Themes of Creating a Sustainable Global Society and Building a Healthy World. The appointee will have expertise in food production horticulture in the areas of temperate field crops, protected crops, or both. They will support teaching and research in horticulture, and basic and applied plant sciences within the School, with a focus on the application of modern advanced technologies.

The appointee will be expected to establish a close working relationship with the horticulture industry and research agencies. They will also take an active part and leadership role in the development and delivery of existing undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in horticulture and in the development of other new educational and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes within the School.

We are looking for highly motivated candidates who have demonstrated aptitude, commitment and a passion for teaching, combined with internationally competitive research potential in relevant areas of horticultural science. Candidates must have an honours undergraduate degree and a PhD in horticulture, applied plant science or a relevant area, teaching experience, a demonstrated capacity to carry out research, as well as excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.

The appointee will complement and engage actively with current academic staff in the Section, School and wider UCD community, and make a significant contribution to university life. The successful candidate will be offered a 3-year temporary contract or a permanent position based on experience and trajectory as determined by the Interview Board.

95 Lecturer/Assistant Professor (above the bar) Salary Scale: 58,206 - 92,172 per annum

Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines
