Nature and Scope

Founded in 1956, Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) aims to be a leading research-led liberal arts University in Asia, delivering academic excellence in a caring, creative, and global culture for the world. HKBU has a student population of over 12,000 and a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes up to the doctoral level. Currently, the University has an academic and teaching staff strength of about 1,000. Beyond Hong Kong, HKBU runs a unique liberal arts college, United International College, with Beijing Normal University in Zhuhai as well as research centres in other parts of China.

The Director (Institutional Research and Strategic Planning) will play an instrumental role in supporting the work of the Provost, provide oversight and leadership that will enable the University Administration in making sound strategic decision through data-informed planning and decision-making.

The Role

  • Lead efforts to promote a data-driven and benchmarking culture, identify priorities, implement appropriate assessment tools and systems; analyse data, and provide recommendations in support of growth strategies, institutional development, and university ranking;
  • Play a key role in the preparation of the Planning Exercise Proposal, University Accountability Agreement and its related matters for the submission to the University Grant Committee in Hong Kong; and
  • Possess a sophisticated understanding of advanced information technologies, good communication and inter-personal skills to work with staff across the university, ranking agencies and universities locally and globally.

The Candidate

  • Proven experience in similar role at university or consulting agencies;
  • Expert in using data to drive decisions;
  • Excellent understanding of ranking methodology in higher education;
  • An effective change driver capable of aligning people and resources toward new directions within a complex administrative setting; and
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to manage people effectively to optimise performance.

Appointment Terms:

The appointment will normally be made on a three-year term, and renewable subject to review and mutual agreement.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
