Scope of Job:
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is seeking applications for Gallery Director and Lecturer I full-time faculty to teach (preferably) Art Education courses or Studio Art Courses in a growing art and design environment. A three-year renewable non-tenured faculty position (initial rank of Lecturer I) scheduled to begin in Fall 2023 (preferred) or open until filled.Responsibilities include:

Oversee gallery operations at three galleries on two campuses, installation of artworks, and gallery scheduling procedures.

Lead gallery operations with the Director of the School of Art and Design and in consultation with the faculty Galley Advising Committee.

Experience in contemporary art installation techniques & safety.

Responsible for the installation of artworks from the School of Art and Design Permanent Collection.

Promote an environment of collegiality by fostering a culture of transparent and consistent communication with faculty and staff in the program area and across other stakeholders within the School of Art and Design, as well as with university and community partners.

Mentor and oversee BFA/MFA exhibition events for graduating students.

Teach at the BFA and/or MFA level as assigned by the Director of the School of Art and Design on two campuses, approximately 65 miles apart.

Teach three courses (9 SCH.) in the Fall semester and two courses (6 SCH.) in the Spring semester in art education or studio art.

Work well with colleagues within and outside the school, particularly in building interdisciplinary collaborations. UTRGV faculty will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to student success and to advancing the university, college, and program missions, as well as a commitment to UTRGV's guiding principles (http://www.utrgv.edu/strategic-plan/strategic-plan/index.htm ), which include promoting access to postsecondary education to a diverse student body and to become one of the largest and most successful Hispanic-serving emerging research institutions in the U.S.A.

Minimum Qualifications:
· A terminal degree (MFA/PhD) in Studio Art or Art education from an accredited institution.· Exceptional knowledge in one or more areas of gallery studies, museology,· Demonstrate outstanding verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.· A commitment to quality, student-centered education with a demonstrated and ongoing commitment to serving diverse student populations.

Preferred Qualification:
· Terminal Degree (MFA/PhD) from an accredited institution with K-12 teaching experience.· Online teaching experience.· Demonstrated commitment to diversity with experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students.

Additional Information:
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.

demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based
test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of
English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a satisfactory test score of 6.0 on the
