Applicants are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery, School of Clinical Medicine (Ref.: 519313), to commence as soon as possible on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.

We will work on projects on Biliary Atresia affecting newborns and employ organoid culture, hIPSCs and transcriptomics technologies. We expect that this combination will provide insights into the pathophysiology, and explore new therapeutic avenues to treat or ameliorate the disorder.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in bioinformatics, computer science, biostatistics, or related disciplines and hands-on experience with bulk/single cell RNA sequencing data analysis. Working knowledge of programming language and statistical software packages is a must. Previous experience in stem cell culture, organoid culture, cell sorting and downstream processing for single cell RNA sequencing would be an advantage. They should be able to work independently, communicate fluently in English, and possess good interpersonal skills. A good publication record would be an advantage.

The appointee will be working in a multidisciplinary team, and will be responsible for the culturing/preparation of organoid/single cell for RNA sequencing and data analysis. Additional responsibilities include coordinating and communicating analysis with collaborators, writing reports and scientific publications, and supervising postgraduate students. Enquiries should be sent to Dr. V.C.H. Lui at vchlui@hku.hk.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.

The University only accepts online applications for the above post.  Applicants should apply online and upload an up-to-date C.V.  Review of applications will start on February 28, 2023 and continue until June 14, 2023, or until the post is filled, whichever is earlier.
