THE POST – Research Assistant in Application Development Platform - REQ001983

UWS has been awarded with a flagship EU project “INCODE: Programming platform for intelligent collaborative deployments over heterogeneous edge-IoT environments”. INCODE envisions an advanced programming platform for intelligent collaborative deployments over heterogeneous edge-IoT environments. It targets to achieve an open platform for the deployment and dynamic management of end user applications, over distributed, heterogeneous and trusted IoT-Edge node infrastructures, with enhanced programmability features and tools at both the network infrastructure level and the service design and operational level.

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant post to work with this major European consortium. As part of a strong R&D team at UWS, the holder of this post will contribute to the design, implementation, validation, integration and evaluation of an Internal Developer Platform (IDP) to facilitate the development, deployment and management of decentralised intelligence applications on edge connected nodes in Internet of Things (IoT) and mobile networks in the EU INCODE project.

The successful candidate should have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent including PhD students in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Networks, Telecommunications, or related areas
  • Experience of developing multi-module software projects, and integrating different components together
  • Experience in DevOps such as Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Development (CD) methodology, and infrastructure as a code
  • Experience in developing practical solutions to real-world use cases
  • Experience in system definition and integration
  • Proficiency of computer programming languages such as Java, Python, C, C++, etc.
  • Experience of making oral presentations at conferences, workshops, and meetings
  • Programming skills
  • Team-working skills
  • Communication skills
  • Good knowledge in GitHub, GitLab or similar platforms
  • Good knowledge in agile software development
  • Good knowledge in IoT/wireless/mobile networking
