Job Details

Natural, mathematical, and engineering sciences have played a central role at King’s since its foundation nearly 200 years ago. This rich tradition continues to the present day where we have created a diverse student and academic community, who have impact globally.

In the past six years, the  Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences (NMES) has doubled in size to 5,000 students, 400 academic, and 150 professional services staff, and has joined the world top 100 across all areas. NMES comprises the departments of Chemistry, Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics, and Physics, and also hosts  interdisciplinary research centres in the  Physical Science of Life and  Net Zero, the  Centre for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP) based in Informatics, and is home to the university’s  Artificial Intelligence Institute. We have made significant investments in our staff and infrastructure, and the student experience, to be competitive with the world’s best.

The Executive Dean will build on our existing strengths across NMES and enhance interdisciplinary opportunities with other Faculties. With a vision to establish King’s as an outstanding institution in our disciplinary areas, it will be vital to maintain high-quality research, as well as support impact activity, external partnerships, and academic and student recruitment within a rapidly growing Faculty, whilst overseeing associated space and capital investment activity.

The successful candidate will be a leader with significant experience of management and leading change, with a distinguished profile in a field relevant to the Faculty’s portfolio. At the same time as leading a growing and distinctive Faculty, we are seeking an Executive Dean who will continue to foster the Faculty’s vibrant and inclusive culture and support a community that prides itself on welcoming staff and students from our local neighbourhoods and from across the globe.

We particularly welcome applicants who are disabled, LGBTQ+ and/or from a minority ethnic group, as they are under-represented at this level at King’s.

The university is in the top seven UK universities for research earnings and has an overall annual income of more than £684 million.
