Opportunity

The Lead Curriculum Writer will provide expert leadership, knowledge and skills in relation to the design, development and delivery of teacher-ready curriculum plans and resources for educators nationally, to support teachers to embed Indigenous knowledge into curriculum for teaching and learning, in a range of learning environments. As the incumbent you will play a substantive role in advancing the development of new and adaptation of existing Indigenous knowledge curricula resources and their curation into integrated curriculum units, you will use sound instructional principles and methodologies oriented to relevant and best practice learning and teaching pedagogies and will be guided by the Ngarrngga Project principles and national curriculum frameworks spanning early childhood to primary and secondary education.

The Lead Curriculum Writer will supervise members of the Curricula Development Team, support their professional development in working with Indigenous content, and guide the team’s liaison with the wider Project Team (including research and monitoring and evaluation leaders) to produce curriculum for classroom trials in support of the Project’s objectives. As a Level D or E you will bring their extensive profile and experience in either Indigenous pedagogy and practice, research leadership, or system engagement in the scaling of effective programs, to actively deliver the goals of the Ngarrngga Project.

About You

You will have demonstrated experience to initiate, develop and make recommendations in relation to learning design in curriculum development, delivery and assessment, and apply these to the development of subject/theme based, high quality learning resources and experiences.

You will possess;

  • A PhD in a relevant discipline along with a teaching qualification and experience as a teacher/leader in schools.
  • An exceptional pedagogical understanding and applied knowledge of curriculum planning with up-to-date expertise of national curriculum frameworks (e.g.the Australian Curriculum and/or early years learning).
  • Current understanding of the theoretical and practical issues relating to the cross-curriculum priority Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures within the Australian Curriculum.

The Ngarrngga Project (‘to know, to hear, to understand’ in Taungurung language) is a signature initiative of the University of Melbourne which aims to empower educators to teach Australian students about the depth and wealth of First Nations peoples’ histories, cultures and contributions to Australia.
