You will join the ETHEREAL (“Epigenetic-Genetic-Mental health-lifestyle cascades control for the prevention of non-communicable disease in autistic adolescents”) multidisciplinary research project. The ETHEREAL consortium aims at helping young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder to independently manage their diet and mental health.   You will work directly with Professor Paolo Rapisarda and Professor Koushik Maharatna of the School of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton; and more broadly with biologists, psychologists, medical doctors, and healthcare companies across Europe.

To be successful, you will have a PhD in Control Theory, Signal Processing, or Applied Mathematics, and international experience of collaborative research documented in a good record of publications in top journals in these areas. Knowledge of data-driven control, mathematical system modelling, system identification, hybrid systems, model order reduction techniques, or machine learning for the modelling of dynamical systems is highly valued.

You are expected to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary group of researchers at different levels of their career; to independently pursue research directions; and to have excellent communication skills in writing and discussing your research work with colleagues and the broader scientific community.

The School of Electronics and Computer Science of the University of Southampton is an Athena SWAN Bronze Award holder, and it encourages and supports women scientists in their research and academic careers. ECS also aims to foster an inclusive work environment, and we strongly encourage applications from underrepresented social groups.
