Open Rank Faculty Position in Chinese Culture

The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen is established in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools upon approval of the Ministry of Education. It inherits the educational philosophy and academic systems of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is intended to evolve into a world class research university with strong Chinese cultural influence. It is committed to nurturing high end talent with global perspective, Chinese tradition and social responsibility.

School of Humanities and Social Science (HSS) has two important missions for our university’s education. First, HSS provides university core courses for all university students in multiple areas, including general education, English language competency, Chinese language competency, physical education and fitness, basic competency in information technology (IT) applications, etc. These areas lay the foundation for the comprehensive education that all CUHK-Shenzhen students receive.

HSS intends to become a school of excellence in humanities and social sciences, and to provide high-quality programmes in multiple areas at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. At present, HSS offers four-high-quality graduate programmes: Master of Arts in Translation and Interpreting Studies, Master of Arts in Global Studies, Master of Science in Applied Psychology and Master of Arts in Simultaneous Interpreting. At the undergraduate level, HSS offers Bachelor of Arts programme in Translation, Bachelor of Arts programme in English Studies and Bachelor of Science programme in Applied Psychology. HSS will also starts new interdisciplinary programmes at both bachelor and master levels.

1. Open Rank Tenured Professor

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in a relevant area of Chinese Culture (specialization areas including, but not limited to China studies, and/or traditional Chinese art, history, literature, philosophy and religions). Applications are invited for faculty position at the rank of full professor/associate professor level with prospect for tenure and chair professorship. Candidates are expected to have solid evidence of excellence in teaching/research/service, and a strong track record of sustained high-quality research/scholarship outcomes in the expertise area(s), as evidenced by research publications in competitive international outlets in the relevant areas of Chinese culture. In addition, candidates need to demonstrate academic leadership and strong commitment to the highest standard of excellence. Successful applicants are expected to be able to teach a range of courses in core areas of Chinese culture and actively participate in the activities of the soon to be established Institute of Chinese Culture. Experience in supervising postgraduate students will be favorably considered.

• Assistant Professor or Lecturer

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in a relevant area of Chinese Culture (specialization areas including, but not limited to China studies, and/or traditional Chinese art, history, literature, philosophy and religions), and should be able to teach a range of courses in core areas of Chinese culture.

Applicant for assistant professor position should have a proven record of teaching excellence and high-quality publications. Lecturer should demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills in English and strongly commit to continuously improve the teaching and conduct high-quality research.

Salary & Benefits

Salary will be competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be made under the establishment of CUHK, Shenzhen and statutory benefits will be provided according to the prevailing labor laws applicable in the PRC. The appointee will be based at the University campus in Shenzhen, PRC.
