The University of Surrey provides life-changing education for its students and impactful research that delivers solutions to global problems. The Times Higher Education rated Surrey 55th in the world for impact and the REF 2021 33rd for overall research quality. For student satisfaction we are in the top 10 in the UK and number one in the UK for graduate employability by the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022.
As part of the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, the newly formed School of Mathematics and Physics brings together the well-established departments of Mathematics and Physics to meet the faculty strategy “Towards An Optimised And Connected Future.” As a new School we are committed to delivering high quality student-focused teaching, driven by the integration of our teaching and research activities. The unique Surrey student experience includes a focus on student placements and professional training opportunities.
Physics at Surrey has a strong research track-record, including the largest nuclear physics research group in the UK, a commitment to multi-disciplinary research such as a Leverhulme-funded Center for Quantum Biology, and an Astronomy group studying the formation and evolution of our galaxy. Our photonics group can trace its origins back to the invention of some of the first lasers through our work on strained semiconductors.
Our Mathematics research covers both pure and applied areas of mathematics and includes one of the largest research groups in nonlinear mathematics. Our research on data science and dynamics applies a range of mathematical techniques applied to identify system characteristics, and to make predictions using data and mathematical models.
- This is an exciting time to join the University of Surrey, at a time of investment in the School and formation of a new University and Faculty strategy for the next 5 years.
- You will be able to shape and develop the School and play your part in impacting on the continuing growth and success of the School.
Bringing together expertise across disciplines is central to our focus in being able to innovate and develop students ready to tackle real-world issues and solve global problems by bringing a new perspective to the table.
We are looking for;
- An experienced academic leader from a related discipline who can demonstrated an ability to think and act at a strategic level and inspire others.
- An individual who can evidence experience of forming new Departments or Schools or brought relevant disciplines together in new ways.
To apply you will need to submit a full CV and write a tailored supporting statement which evidences how you meet the essential criteria laid out in the Candidate Pack.
