The role

  • Fixed term (up to 3 years and renewable)
  • Part time (1 day per week initially) with the potential to grow to Full Time.

Initially, this newly created role will be for one day of teaching and teaching-related responsibilities each week. It is anticipated that the role will grow as student numbers increase.

As a lecturer of data science, you will use your sound knowledge and understanding of data science, gained through industry experience and/or scholarly activities to teach subjects to students face-to-face on-campus. You will actively contribute to the successful delivery of teaching and learning to ensure high-quality outcomes.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and deliver learning materials, including the lectures, tutorials, practical classes and workshops as well as assessments.
  • Effectively undertake administrative duties related to teaching activities of identified units of study or courses.
  • Supervise and guide students in relation to academic matters during and outside (agreed) scheduled teaching times.
  • Develop learning resources and course material with appropriate support and oversight from senior academic staff.
  • Identify and, where appropriate, address student needs.
  • Monitor, evaluate, report on, and assess student progress.
  • Refer students to the appropriate channels of support.

 

A successful candidate will have:

  • A PhD in the field of Data Science or a related discipline
  • Minimum 1 year of teaching experience and demonstrated high quality of teaching and experience in a teaching role at a higher education institution.
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate industry learnings into teaching and learning approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach or mentor students at a tertiary education level.
  • Experience with supporting students from a variety of cultural and ethnics backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching through continual development and improving performance.
