Imagine working in an environment where your contribution is so far reaching that you will be changing the world - this is reality - if you choose.

Are you an expert in Biomedical Engineering, with a passion for engineering new healthcare technologies, such as sensors and systems, implantable devices or microfluidic diagnostics?

Whether you are an established academic who currently holds an equivalent position, or a successful colleague who seeks the opportunity to step up to a more senior role, or returning to work after a career break, aspiring to create entrepreneurial opportunities, the University of Southampton is the place to do something truly unique with your expertise.

You will join a new interdisciplinary group in Digital Health and Biomedical Engineering, working with leaders in their field, defining the future of this exciting new discipline. You will have the opportunity to contribute to a new degree programme:

You’ll have the scope to create your own opportunities. For example, one of our colleagues joined us in 2017 with an industrial research background. Since then, she’s built a strong publishing record, mentored students, advised industrial partners, and been awarded numerous grants. With our support, she’s directed her own progress and is spearheading research initiatives in Healthcare Technology. She was promoted to a Professor in 2021.

Ranked in the top 1% of universities worldwide, we’re bold, progressive and keen to push the boundaries of what we’re teaching our students - and what we’re learning alongside them. We encourage and support our staff to pursue research and develop enterprise activities and take advantage of other opportunities within their fields of interest. When everyone brings and shares their own ideas and findings, it helps us to stay at the forefront of thinking in electronics and computer science. With leading research centres in Machine Intelligence, Healthcare Technologies, Flexible Electronics and e-Textiles, and Internet of Things, together with state-of-the-art wet laboratory facilities for Biomedical Engineering research, our reputation for teaching, research and enterprise is quite exceptional.

You’ll need a PhD, or equivalent professional qualifications in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, with a strong publication record, and be able to demonstrate delivery of teaching in a manner that meaningfully engages students. It is essential that you have a track-record of innovative research in Biomedical Engineering and have a desire to build a strong research team..
