The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is an international, multi-campus Institution that can trace its roots back to 1828. Led by Vice Chancellor Professor Graham Baldwin, UCLan is one of the UK’s largest universities with the staff and student community approaching 38,000.  Their employment-focused course portfolio with over 350 undergraduate programmes, nearly 200+ postgraduate courses and rich array of CPD courses means that students enjoy a first-class experience, alongside accessible and relevant research that makes a contribution to society.  Its current strategic plan runs until 2028 which will mark UCLan’s 200th anniversary.  The vision through which the plan will be delivered is to “transform lives by delivering an outstanding educational experience, creating prosperity and opportunity in the communities we serve.“

The role of Dean of Law and Policing is a new role on account of a restructure that has seen the Institution replace its Faculties with Academic Schools.  The new entity is an exciting multi-disciplinary proposition comprising the disciplines of Law, Policing, Forensics and Archaeology.  There has been substantial investment in facilities and there is significant ambition with regard to both the student experience and the further development of the research portfolio. The nature of the subject matter means that the School works with local communities and there is also the opportunity to build collaborative working with other parts of the University.

The University of Central Lancashire is seeking to appoint a first-class people leader with the ability to influence and deliver results in the School’s requisite disciplines.  She, he or they could come from a practitioner background, but they must demonstrate an understanding of the Higher Education sector and the ability to lead a change agenda that embraces continuous improvement and the development of innovative solutions.  Within this, there is a strategy of growth, so the new post-holder must have the appetite to assert the School’s position regionally and nationally.

Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic Leadership), the new Dean will be a key member of the university senior leadership team, and will play an important role in university decision-making at the highest level, supporting the mission, vision, values and behaviours of wider cultural change.

UCLAN is committed to building a truly inclusive culture where diversity is championed. Applications are particularly welcomed from individuals who will diversify the University’s leadership team and support its development of a culture that is inclusive and welcoming to all.
